Arapahoe Basin - Black Mountain Express

Published 2024-06-08
The Black Mountain Express at Arapahoe Basin Colorado is a four person detachable chairlift that services the lower mountain portion of Arapahoe Basin. It was built to replace a triple chair called Exibition in 2010, and is the mountain's first detachable chairlift when installed. The lift facilitates contour loading, having the drive terminal situated at the top terminal. Despite having a vertical rise of around 717 feet, the Black Mountain serves a very important role at the mountain, as usually it is the first lift to open, and one of the last to close. It also features Poma Omega terminals, some of the last Leitner-Poma made before upgrading their design.

This was one of the last lifts with Leitner-Poma Omega terminals and grips as it was built in 2010, and in that same year, Leitner-Poma built their first LPA terminals and grips on the High Noon Express at Vail! The Omega terminal and grip were phased out the following year.
