The doctor who helped catch child-killer Lucy Letby has told ITV News that babies' lives could have been saved if hospital bosses had contacted police sooner.

Dr Ravi Jayaram, who is a consultant paediatrician at the Countess of Chester Hospital, said he repeatedly raised concerns about his former colleague months before police were alerted.

In an exclusive interview, he has detailed to ITV News how executives at the top of the organisation at the time told him to “draw a line” under his suspicions and to apologise to Lucy Letby for his accusations.

This is so disgusting for a hospital not to listen to doctors taking care of these babies

Having to apologise to a serial killer because you hurt their feelings is actually really sickening- I can't believe they made well respected doctors do this.

When Dr. Ravi said with tears in his eyes, "If the actions had been taken earlier, some of the babies would be going to school now" is so heart breaking. Love to the grieving families and huge respect to the doctor. We need more like him.

Been a nurse for 14 years now and I’ve never seen such an evil act. Poor babies. My heart is crying with their parents. Absolutely disgusting that the Trust let her slip for years.

I feel so bad for this doctor! He knew something was wrong but had no proof. Then he was forced to apologize to someone he knew was a killer.

These hospital managers NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for their part in all of this !!!! This poor doctor was doing everything he could to tell them what was going on, and they flat out refused to do ANYTHING to help him 😕 He's a wonderful doctor and person, we need more like him ❤️

Dr. Ravi is a hero. He deserves a medal. The hospital authorities should be in the same cell as Lucy Letby

"This child could be going school today" Strong words. What a Doctor.

Hospital bosses MUST be investigated by the police! Babies had AIR and INSULIN injected into them- the babies did not do it to themselves! Lucy was the single commin denominator in each of those tragedies. Hospital bosses THREATENED the doctors careers.. how dare they! Kudos to this consultant!

I would be furious if I was this doctor and was treated like this by the hospital - then only to find he was absolutely correct.

Goes to show how absolutely toxic a work environment can be and how managers can be so incompetent. So disgusting and harrowing

The fact that it took 7 consultants, and management still didn't think to intervene is astounding.

Legal action should be taken against mangers. This is shocking. Poor parents 😢

It made me tear up to see the raw grief on Dr. Ravi's face when he said that the truly believed that the babies could have been saved. He knew what he was talking about and the thought makes me cry.

What an insult to that doctor. Whoever ignored his warnings should be prosecuted.
  • @kitchenworker446
The trust managers who dealt with this matter should be prosecuted...they helped her to continue killing babies.

Is this doctor talking about his unit failures and the chaos in the unit with the junior doctors doing the consultants job and unexperienced doctors left to run the unit before Letby became a suspect? Is he talking about the fact that the unit was downgraded and not allowed to take in premature babies and ill new born after Letby left? is he talking about the fact that in 2019, in his unit, the mortality raised again? come forward clean and clear and take the responsibilities for the failures...
  • Dr Ravi is so insanely strong. They really threw everything at him hoping to grind him down and give up hope, but the moment he got to speak to the police he had a clear head and only the thought of justice on his mind. Bravo.
