When Markiplier and CrankGamePlays put up the channel Unus Annus, they had two big rules.
1. They would be uploading daily for 365 day.
2. After those 365 days, the channel would be deleted and disappear forever.
That is a BIG play. All that work just to have it disappear? It is a bold and simple premise for a channel... except nothing is ever that simple, is it? Therosits, I have watched and analyzed all of the uploads on the channel and I've come to one BIG conclusion. There is something SECRET hiding in the videos of Unus Annus. A secret that someone has been trying to tell us since the beginning. A secret that, just maybe, could save Mark, Ethan, and Unus Annus before the clock runs out.

“Also, I’m not a doctor... But as a concerned friend of yours, Stop breaking your nose. -_- ” Lovin’ the script.

Mark, Ethan, and Amy after watching this: "Wait we didn't think about that."
  • @NiZhiQiang
MatPat: "As a concerned friend of yours, please stop breaking your nose." Mark: "Fine. I'll break my foot then."

''will the channel actually die?'' Me, three months post mortem: the best year of my life was gone in an instant, only to reveal a black screen covered in my tears. *insert chaos in the Unus Annus Community Here*
  • This is the most markiplier thing that markiplier could possibly do.

"Someone is trying to stop the clock." Well, yeah. The fans.

I love how mark and ethan end up making fun of matpat's therory in the final goodbye stream.

“Will the actually die?” *me, sitting here, seven months after the end*: who’s gonna tell him?

Plot twist: Amy set this up and mark and Ethan have no clue about this
  • @theazza2328
"sweet piece of man candy" hears mark laughing hysterically in the distance
  • In one episode Ethan says something along the lines of "What if the outside only exists when we see it or something" Mark replies with something like "What do you mean?" and then the episode continues as normal.

"What is Mark hiding??" Masochism and he's doing a terrible job at hiding it
  • @livvhas3447
Ok, this just went from "Oh yeah, they're spending a year doing silly stuff" to "I'm a liiiitle scared."

Unus Annus was such a work of art on so many levels. Momento Mori, my friends. You will not soon be forgotten.
  • imagine all the coded messages were just to throw off matpat because they knew he’d come searching for it

Gotta admit, coming back here five and a half months after the final moments, and just over a week after losing my third cat (first one to a heart condition, second one to age because he was a rescue, and my boyo on the 18th to a congenital kidney disease) who was also black and white and the best of boys, this hits so hard. I mean it hit hard when I wrote an entire poem just over a month after that fateful day, a poem I'm editing to make as tight as possible to be published in a "real" publishing magazine (something not only English/Creative writers might have heard of) but now… stars above it hit so hard. I will say that if nothing else, and I'm terrible with actually taking things to heart when it's not life or death, that I'm glad I took to heart that my little black and white buddy wasn't be to be taken for granted. He was 3. He lived through all of Unus Annus, and because of that channel's impact I spent more time with him than any of the other cats (and my service dog outside of her job) in my house because… because maybe I knew that he wouldn't make it past just over three years. That my time was limited and that his was as well. Just hearing Matpat recite the similar cadence of the opening intro to Unus Annus reminds me of all the things that the series meant to me and what I took away from it in a vivid way that makes me want to reach out to those I care about but haven't heard from because I dropped the ball in 2020. To paraphrase a thing I read ages ago on Tumblr: Elves value humans the same way we value our cats and dogs and other pets, we will alway live staggeringly long lives, and be destined to outlive them, so of course we value every second. Unus Annus taught me to value that sometimes two and a half years is all you get, and that if you can make those two and a half years amazing for that animal you rescued (or person you got to know) in even the smallest way possible… it's always worth it. I'll always be grateful for that. Memento Mori.
