The USB naming schemes are arguably more difficult to understand than advanced calculus
  • @memwyvern
Even with Professor Messer explaining it so succinctly, the constantly-changing USB 3 terminology scheme seems so silly.

completely random comment, but I have this video paused and it feels like Professer Messer is looking directly at me when he's staring at the camera lol.
  • I just recently started A+ and this section, 3.1 Peripheral Cables, is actually in the very first lesson in the official CompTIA CertMaster Learn course. Thank you, Professor Messer, for clearing up all the confusion I was experiencing over this naming fiasco. I'll be using this entire playlist to supplement my learning.

The USB-IF is really changing the names of these specifications to trip-up upcoming A+ certification recipients, I swear lol

usb 3.2 gen 2x2, was this the best name we could come up with for this? Really?

I usually am comfortable with ×1.25 speed but I had to slow down for this.

Just started my A+ journey, I decided to buy the CertMaster and Labs from Comptia just to have more structured learning experience and slightly terrified due to what I heard (some saying it gives way too much information, some saying that it doesn't teach you what you need to know). Basically, though, the learning started with cables and motherboard components, rather than laptops, so I am hoping for the best when it comes down to it....

So if 3.0 was 3.0 when it was created, how can it (name-wise) be renamed to 3.2? Seems like it would've been far simpler to just add a new number at the end and keep previous gens as they are. Seems like it'd make buying the exact right cable for a specific task much harder than it needs to be.

I’m a little thrown off when thunderbolt is using USB-C as an interface in version 3. Is thunderbolt referred to as a type of signal? I thought thunderbolt is some type of interface itself.
