“When I received my Cancer diagnosis, my first thought was, ‘Why me?’ I’d wake up thinking it was all a nightmare; I couldn’t believe that this could happen to me. That’s when I started to change the way I thought. Instead of ‘why me?’ I started asking, ‘Why not me?’ I started to feel grateful this wasn’t happening to my sister, or my son. I realized I had the strength to deal with this, I had the resources to go to the best hospitals, and the support system to help me through this. Starting to ask ‘why not me?’ helped me start the healing process.”

From Hum Saath Saath Hain to Zee5’s The Broken News, Sonali Bendre stole hearts across India as the poster girl for 90s Bollywood, but she kept them with her unwavering spirit during her public battle with Stage 4 Cancer. In this episode, she reveals the mindset that got her through it all.

Sonali explains how she went from feeling like an outsider in Bollywood to seeing the industry rally around her during her illness. She talks about how she found solace in science throughout her treatment, how Cancer became her ultimate teacher, and how she changed the Bollywood beauty standard.

In this episode of Fittr presents Realign, Sonali breaks down the power of positivity, how to speak to your body with your brain, and the best way to tackle imposter syndrome.

I keep watching this episode over and over again, it's one of your best. My mother battled cancer, and I often wondered, why her? She was such a simple person with no bad habits. When Sonali said, "why not me," it answered all my questions. I lost my mother 12 years ago, and at one point, I didn't know how to cope with life. However, life goes on, and it actually improves with time. Thank you, Karishma, for hosting such a beautiful and inspiring episode. I can't express how much I admire you. You've changed my life in so many ways. More power to you. ❤️

Unfortunately the reality is that most people don’t have the kind of money to afford treatment in a different country. I appreciate her journey and can’t begin to understand what she dealt with. Very glad she overcame however I know a lot of people who couldn’t make it through because they didn’t have the support system.
