I found this 80's coffee table at the thrift store for $20. And I'm giving is a Scandinavian fluted makeover with pole wrap and a blonde custom stain. You won't believe this before and after!

Only thing I’d change is that top edge. It looks unfinished. Everything else is great. ❤️

Like most people mentioned , that top edge is a deal breaker for me. It should have been attached under the top edge of the table. The idea is great but the way it’s attached really stands out.

Only thing I would have done differently is start the pole wrap under the top lip for a more finished look. But the stain is just lovely and it certainly has the more modern fluted vibe you were going for!!
  • Add trim to the top edge, would look so much nicer and finished. I wouldn’t try to sell it until that happened.

Curious to know why you didn't start under the top lip. Now, there is an edge discrepancy. Maybe if it had been sanded at an angle, it wouldn't be so noticeable. I have the same idea for my coffee table and wanted to see how someone else would do it. Thanks for sharing! 😊
  • Love it ~ would like a closing trim at the top edge where the table and the side boarding meets to finish it off 😊 $1000

If you decide to sell it, you may wanna do something with the edge, I love what you did and would’ve preferred a finished edge, perhaps a touch larger than the base

The refreshed wood is so lovely and it's a nice idea; a refined top edge and opening panel would be a great plus for selling.
  • I Applaud stepping outside the box here, it's Very inspiring and definitely gets the brain juices flowing 👏 Thank you Christina for always bringing something new. Inspire, challenge and encourage thats what you do for me. Ty ❤

I have a very similar table but with the glass inserts in top. Have wanted to tone down the color and this is so inspiring. Wondering why you didn’t leave an opening on one side to access the interior for storage. Maybe a hidden door/panel for access?

It's pretty but I'd definitely put some kind of strip to complete the transition gap.
  • In addition to the raw edge as mentioned numerous times before, I didn't like that there was nothing supporting the pole wrap on the sides. I wouldn't like to own something hollow. It could be damaged too easily.

Great idea. Pole wrap is an versatile material to work with. I would like to see a finished edge at the top. What about feet or a low wide pedestal? These 80 s table were so big and hulking looking so raising it up somehow may help. I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this outdated table and certainly wouldnt have a vision for it.

Turned out fantastic and I am so glad you were creative with the stain and didn't "paint wash" 😀
  • @dianaemerson9903
Maybe use round reed spline used to repair cane or rattan furniture on the gap?
  • I love how it turned out but I would do something about the edge perhaps?

A lot of work goes into this but it is so worth, beautiful, luv it.❤
