Wow I felt like he was talking to the cable company!

Pilot: "WE JUST LOST A DOOR" ATC: "Climb."

Pilot: Emergency! ATC: Do a barrel roll

I've been a pilot for 14 years, this is the first time I've ever heard "declaring an emergency" and "Confirm you have ATIS information" in that order.

Door flies off, can't climb, can't see the runway through the clouds, no localizer for that runway. Then when I hear ground say the gear is not down my heart skipped a few beats. I'm thinking what the hell else can go wrong? Well done Captain.

As a recently retired ATC with 29 years at two of the busiest facilities in the world, my number one rule for students handling an emergency was, “Don’t make it worse!” Number two was, “Do everything in your power to help the pilot.” Things have changed I guess but I hope this was an isolated incident.

"Join the localiser." "What's the frequency?" "There isn't a localiser." One of the worst ATC responses to an emergency that I've ever seen.

pilot: we are declaring an emergency. norcal: hold on, let me go get some coffee.

Very poor job done by controller. She is more worried about protecting herself than dealing with the emergency. 2600 mva is 1000 ft above obstacle, so with aircraft at 2000ft a turn can still be safely made although not "legal". Getting A/C on the ground safely is your only concern not getting a slap on the wrist for breaking MVA. She provided very little help to pilot and was not listening to him. Telling him to intercept loc after he said he needs the freq. Really bad. Asking if he has ATIS? Come on, give him the important info. You can hear in the pilots voice that he give up on this controller helping them. Listened to this with other ATC controllers ( 26 years on job for myself) and all we could do is shake our heads.

I like how the pilot here was firm about what he can and cannot do.

UP: My hands are full and we’re IMC NCT: ok report the field in sight UP: we’re imc, can we get the loc freq? NCT: sure, cleared to join the localizer UP: what’s the frequency?? NCT: there is no localizer 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
