On March 20, 2021 I drove to Sasebo from my home in Hiroshima. I was there to conduct a wedding at the Yumihari No Oka Hotel Resort. I arrived a few hours early, parked at a public parking area near the Sasebo Harbor and went for a long walk around the Harbor Park and on base at the US Navy Fleet Activities base.

  • 😊 I was in Sasso from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. The harbor is full of shifts all the time worked in the Navy garage for two years.
  • I remember walking through the mall and the naval base with my family and this video made me cry for the first time in a long time. Thank you.

Dad was stationed on the USS Dubuque 88-95; I grew up in Sasebo... it's so different and yet the same â€đŸ˜ą

i was in sasebo in April 2018,i had a wonderful time,i was in love with japan since then
  • Was there ( Branch Medical Clinic ) from Sept. '88 to Nov. '91. It was Nimitz Park when I was there. BEQ 63, directly across from the (old) fire station and along the river. That overpass wiped out a lot of my favorite places, most of all 'Janome Sushi '. Really miss the good people.

I loved my time in japan. Sasebo was wonderful. I was there in 2014 November - July 2015 at the ships repair facility. I would love to go back on a vacation trip.

havent been there since December 2010 (was there 4 1/2 years... USS Essex LHD-2) - the outside part with the overpass threw me all off - looks completely different... NEX was there from at least 06 when I got there - not sure if they redid it or not... I think it was fairly new around that time. The rest of the base seems familiar enough, a couple of new buildings I think... been a long time, memory is a bit fuzzy... prob would have to walk it myself to know for sure. thanks for the video - brought back memories
  • I was a storekeeper at the Commisary Store 68/70. It has changed a lot through the years. Loved the times I had there!!

My first Deployment as a Seabee EO, 2002-2003. I remember going to all the bars out in town and the Hard work we achieved. I also remember the little dog named Wheel Chock. The Barracks were brand New. We were the 1st to stay in them. Good memories!!

Lots of changes. I was stationed there, Marine Barracks, 1971-1973. It was great duty. Thanks for the memories.

My first duty station out of Boot, 1951 to 1953, only thing I recognized was Bldg 80 headquarters where I was stationed as a QM/SM in the signal tower top of Bldg.80. Great time while there, harbor had a average of 100 ships at bouy's and at anchor so flashing light traffic was very heavy. love the Japanese people and Sasebo.

I Was home ported in Sasebo, left in 1975. I didn’t recognize a thing and would get lost so fast today. My 6 ft tall blond daughter has always had problems with people believing her when she tells them she was born in Japan.

I should be able to get back to Sasebo for a month early next year when they reopen the border for single tourist. I love all the long walks and sailor town 😀. My last time there was December 2019 just before Covid.
