13.4 inches of rain in less than 5 days has inundated our fields, causing severe flooding. Our farm's bin site is damaged, and many roads are now inaccessible. In today's video, I show the widespread destruction caused by this once-in-a-lifetime flooding event that swept across my farm in Southwest Minnesota. This catastrophic flood also impacted Eastern South Dakota, Northern Iowa, and all of Southern Minnesota.

Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.

  • As a farmer in SW Ontario, it's so tough to see this. God bless you folks, hoping the weather straightens out soon.
  • @marcholtz7582
Hard to do but stay positive, it's a very tough business you're in son!
  • @JIMRbach193
Prayers that the water recedes rapidly, and your crops stay healthy to harvest.
  • No matter how much you plan, how hard you try or how many hours you work. You can not control the weather and although that is not unique to farming it sure can mess with what it is you are trying to accomplish. Sorry for your luck but I bet you will remember 2024 for the rest of your life.
  • @rau123

Thanks for the tour, my heart goes out to you guys. There's only one thing worse than too much rain and that is no rain at all.
  • Thanks for informing us on how this flooding impacts the farming community. Prayers that those crops can still recover.
  • Thanks for the video. Big fan of farming community. Hopefully the crops will survive

When things get tough, only the strong don't give up. All the best to you and those that work with you.
  • This is exactly why I get so damn pissed off at these fools that were crying the last few years about "drought" WE'VE NEVER HAD A DROUGHT. Why cloud seeding hasn't been outlawed yet here is unfathomable.
  • How about some dike up hill from the bin site to route flowing water around it? My family farmed 500 acres 4.5 miles north of Grand Meadow Mn. My dad was on the Minnesota Dairy Promotion Board through the 1970’s. Farm was sold in 1981. We had some flooding in the south end of our farm in late summer 1978 when my parents and I were on a farm tour through Europe. My dad called home to check on things and whoever talked to my dad downplayed the situation. We finished the trip. It was interesting to tour Europe when I was 11 years old.
  • This water is needed for the farms in Idaho that got their water shut off by the government after they already planted their crops.
  • @kathikapp6707
So sorry to see the devastation on your farm! Grew up on a farm in southern central ND. I hope things get better!
  • @stardust949
Thank you for your reporting on these floods. You be careful, okay? Some of that excessive water might be contaminated. God Bless you, young man.
  • I’m sorry to see this is happening to you guys. Keeping everyone in mind, better days are ahead!
