European (czech) here, I can assure you no one over here calls it "euro cents" in normal conversations, we just call it cents 😄
  • @prnzssLuna
Apple stealing ideas from Unity lmao Also pretty sure the EU won't like that. I smell a lawsuit coming
  • @Macvombat
It is Euro cents in the same way that it is Dollar cents. No one actually says Euro cents. Also, many currencies use cents.

Apple pulled the same stunt with the USB charger. USB chargers became law 10 years ago. Apple sold a separate 50 Euro USB to lighting converter, which nobody bought. Eu had to tighten the laws to make apple comply

Calling installing a program on the computer you bought sideloding is such a crazy change of perspective Appla managed to do.
  • @llamajoeteam
It seems to me and many others that apple just straight up, did NOT comply. You still need their permission and can only do it their way. That's not third party, thats first party with extra steps.
  • @Super3xtr4
No one has confirmed Apples move is conforming to EU regulations.

The Android comparison is silly. Yes, the Play Store has a bit of a monopoly, but it is not monopolistic. Installing a new app store on Android is as simply as downloading a file, flipping a setting, and tapping a confirmation prompt. There is no real obstacle there.

I give it 6 months at most before apple has to change these policies due to them not complying and breeching other laws and at most a year till the DMA gets changed to be much more restrictive regarding what falls under complying in the first space.

IMO this seems like a pretty obvious bad faith compliance. It practically changes nothing and punishes devs by having to put a $1,000,000 deposit.

And to think what Microsoft was tried for in the 90's in that antitrust case.... that's peanuts compared to what big tech is doing these days.
  • @uis246
I think Apple tries to make world record on how many EU laws one company violates at same time. Core Technology Fee? It has to be illegal to charge fee for service you do not provide even under current laws.
  • i doubt that apples try to play games with the EU will bear fruit. The EU passed these laws with a rather clear view of what they want to have and i don't think they'll like someone publically playing little games with them

5:55 Watch Luke die inside as his boss tries to get the company canceled lol

Linus you cannot say that duopolies are really monopolies because then Americans would have to reconcile the fact that they don't actually live in a democracy they just live in a dual dictatorship.
  • @Alias_Anybody
Them putting up resistance now will just make it more painful later on.
  • @NMojovic
As a former Symbian and Windows Phone user I enjoy Apple making developers and companies miserable for their choices to support only two operating system. They made their bed.
  • @dj4aces
It's only "unlike them" if you're not paying attention to exactly the lengths they'll go to in order to avoid complying with something they disagree with, whether it be as a matter of principle or otherwise.
  • It keeps me up at night worrying that Valve/Steam will turn heel and PC gaming will gravely suffer for it.
