  • The tracks between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg are NOT owned by Amtrak. Norfolk Southern allows Amtrak to use their tracks between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. I believe they also try to give Amtrak the highest priority as they can. The tracks between Harrisburg and Philadelphia are owned by Amtrak and it is their Keystone Corridor. The tracks between Philadelphia and New York City are Amtrak’s famous Northeast Corridor. Beautiful Video too! I subscribed!

Thanks for posting this! I'll be moving to Pittsburgh for grad school and wanted to experience taking the train all the way to New York! I appreciate the video! Keep it up!

for those people who say well you drive to new york city in half the time. the train is relaxing and enjoyable besides the views you have on the way unforgettable.
  • Thanks so much for visiting our city of Pittsburgh! We love our city and it’s great to have Amtrak offer service here. I remember riding the Pennsylvaniain back in I believe 1996 for a trip to New York for Thanksgiving! Was awesome. Crazy how times have changed and the updates on the trains finally! Have you tried the Auto train Amtrak has? Be safe and keep up the good work!!

Great video. Thank you. It has encouraged me to take the same trip that I've been considering for some time.

Never again in life will i suffer on a greyhound bus if Amtrak offers service to the same destination.

Thanks for this Dan. I really appreciate your style. Half the stuff on you tube is unbearable because people think I want to stare at their face half the time. This was done beautifully. Thanks.

Dan, thanks a lot for this one! Really enjoyed the trip back from Pittsburgh and it checked off some boxes for me that I was curious about. Never made it to the Amtrak station in PGH when I was there but only to the south-side commuter rail station then went on a tour of the remaining trolley lines. Was "old rivets" (the prototype GG-1) there in Harrisburg station? It may have been retired to some museum if it was lucky (or we were lucky!) I almost raised my hand at an auction sale to buy one of those and was eternally grateful I didn't in hindsight. Whatta pain that would have been all-in-all. Thanks again!

You should should do a trip from Washington DC to Norfolk, VA. Norfolk has a beautiful new train station and the view approaching NFK is amazing. You see the Elizabeth River, Downtown Norfolk, and plenty of shipbuilding.
  • You should try the Springfield line! Trains go from New Haven, Connecticut, to Springfield, Massachusetts! Its a very interesting line. I highly recommend it!

I like how you get dragged backwards between PHL and NYP lol
  • Looks like fun I plan to take the train from New York to Pittsburgh when I go to anthrocon

Six hours of the trip is the stretch between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg on the NS line, so the speed is limited. Maybe someday Amtrak will get a dedicated line along with that second daily train that's been discussed recently.

I might’ve missed you saying this. But currently, Septa is the only fully electric commuter rail line in the US. You also have the RTD in Denver. But septa has been around for longer.
