Cindy is a 1978 American musical television film that features an entirely African-American cast. Directed by William A. Graham, the film is an urbanized retelling of Cinderella.

After World War II, Cindy (Woodard) has moved from the south to live in Harlem with her newly blended family. She finds herself constantly abused by her stepmother and stepsisters. Her father (Mitchell) provides some comfort but cannot prevent the abuse entirely. One night, she meets Captain Joe Prince (Davis) and is swept off her feet. Soon after, a romance ensues. - Wikipedia

I kept trying to tell people Brandy was not the 1st and they thought I was crazy. I remember this production as a kid and I loved it. This was back in the day when families sat together and watched and enjoyed it.

This movie just made me cry with not only laughter but a grieving cry for the loss of our LEGENDS before they were. RIP to all involved with this film that passed away and left us with their beautiful work and reflection of how great brown skinned talent really is.

I am So glad I stumbled across this movie! I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard. The performances, the talent, the comedic timing, the manner in which this story was told, the honesty, naivety and execution of "Cindy" was all so absolutely brilliant. The band was stellar...I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end! Good, clean, fun! Loved it! Just loved it! Thank you for posting this!
  • My mama said don't let a man buy you a expensive gift. I didn't buy it, I stole it. Then that should be just fine, lolπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£

Charlayne was my roommate at New Paltz College. Each morning she would get up and sing β€œmoon shadow.” She was a star then. She is a star now.

I love this movie. Cindy chose love over money and she was a bundle of joy. She still loved her step family. This is my first time seeing the black version and it was lovely!!!
  • I remember watching this movie on TV back in the 90s and absolutely loving it! Brandy might be one of the best known Cinderellas (her version is legendary), but this version is sooooooo good and deserves way more recognition. This retelling of the classic story of Cinderella definitely holds its own ❀️

  • THANK YOU for including Cindy in your archives. I remember when this was originally broadcast in 1978, and it was immediately one of my favorite programs of all time. I could not remember the star, Charlayne Woodward's name, so I am grateful for this footage. πŸ™ŒπŸ™πŸ‘
