HISTORY goes to the ends of the earth to find where our world began. Forged from fire and ice, formed by floods, volcanoes, asteroids and earthquakes, our planet tells a dynamic geological story. What are mega-tsunamis? What happens when you have millions of years of rain? Visual effects, location filming and stunning aerial photography bring viewers back 4.5 billion years to enjoy a unique window on our world. How the Earth Was Made peels back time like layers of rock to reveal the origins of the place we call home.

  • I went to Parkfield to check out the fault monitoring. It is amazing to walk from one plate in two steps to another plate.
  • Why call it an ugly scar on the landscape? It’s actually pretty astonishing to see a seam in the planets continental shelf’s.
  • I grew up near there and have seen it with my own eyes. I moved to Montana!😮
  • The East African Rift Valley is very similar. Stretching from Ethiopia to South Africa, it will eventually break away and for a new island.

Imagine how violent the earthquakes must have been when the moon was much closer to the Earth. 🌙 🌎 🌊

So pleased to be living 3 hours south of the Oregon border. We do get earthquakes and there is 2 very close slumbering volcanoes (Shasta and Lassen). I wonder if the whole length all the way up here could quake and shift and how bad would it be

It's fun and informative to watch. But, the background music isn't really "background." You need to tone it down, History Channel.
  • I can see the San Andreas from my backyard we live that close to it:hand-orange-covering-eyes:
  • It's refreshing to listen to true American English accent instead of the weird British one. Back when documentaries were great & full of real information.
  • Up north here in Washington State we have the Cascadia Subduction Zone about 55 miles off our coast from Vancouver, Canada about 700 miles south to Cape Mendacino, California. It last came Unlocked in 1700. I learned about this from Nick Zentner a geology professor at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🧝‍♂my cats Teo, Twotwo and me.
  • Very good job dudes and well done!! Congratulations 994.92% yo throughout the 5th sizzling week of said joyous June y'all. The East African Rift Valley is very similar. Stretching from Ethiopia to South Africa, it will eventually break away and for a new island.
  • I was stationed outside of Barstow in the mid 1980's. We would drop through Cahone Pass going to San Berdo and Hollywood. We always joked about how if the fault broke off,we would have prime beachfront and Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead would become the new Catalina Islands.😏
  • How does it say posted an 51 minutes ago when I have seen this episode on THIS channel several times? This first aired 15 years ago. Nothing about this is *50 minutes ago * new.
